Senior Program Manager – Automation

About us: Lucira Health is a startup striving to transform the way infectious diseases are diagnosed. Lucira Health is the first at-home COVID test authorized by the FDA. Our technology is a single-use, user-friendly COVID test kit that can produce a positive or negative result at home within 30 minutes. This technology bypasses centralized medical lab testing and streamlines patient care. Our current areas of focus include COVID and influenza.

Position Summary:

Lucira has a fast-paced, flexible and a very entrepreneurial type of work environment. The individual in this role will help scale product operations, ensuring all milestones and deliverables are met.  Responsibilities include the day-to-day planning, coordinating, and tracking of critical activities to keep programs and projects on schedule. The successful candidate will optimize teams’ effectiveness and decision making, facilitate team building and communication. This job requires a combination of technical, analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.


Work with a broad array of cross functional stakeholders, including manufacturing, supply chain, quality, regulatory and partner organizations to deliver and launch automated process solutions.

  • Lead effort to develop and implement automated manufacturing equipment for the commercial manufacturing of Lucira Health’s Diagnostic Test Kits
  • Work closely with technical/engineering and cross-functional teams to drive requirements and lead execution of engineering deliverables, including design, engineering, testing/validation and commercialization, so that end solutions align with technical specifications and overarching strategy, while ensuring that product/partner requirements are incorporated into product roadmap.
  • Lead RFP process to evaluate and recommend automation suppliers and equipment solutions
  • Execute equipment sourcing, documentation, fabrication and qualification at operations sites
  • Manage automation partners including equipment manufacturers, material suppliers, contract manufacturers and engineering service partners
  • Overall program management: planning, prioritization, objective setting, and plan execution including:
    • Implement project plan, timelines budget and resources
    • Identify and manage critical path activities and proactively mitigate roadblocks
    • Facilitate project trade-offs, challenge assumptions, and evaluate project work and risks
    • Facilitate contingency planning
    • Escalate potential delays with proposed solutions
  • Conduct program and project meetings and be responsible for relevant documentation: agendas, minutes, timelines, scorecards, and dashboards
  • Prepare program update documentation including dashboards and progress reports to inform key stakeholders, including senior management and functional leaders, of project status
  • Support the design and development of new products, including participation in design reviews to make sure designs are capable of meeting full scale production


  • BA/BS degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, MBA or other advanced technical degree relevant to position is preferred.
  • 7+ years of program or project management experience focused on automation and process engineering in support of manufacturing and commercial operations in a regulated environment (pharmaceutical or medical device)
  • Ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects with internal and external stakeholders by creating and communicating a clear vision among team members, effectively aligning resources to achieve functional area goals.
  • Adept at handling ambiguity, exercising good business judgment, and influencing without authority.
  • Significant supplier management experience, with proven ability to manage deliverables on time and in budget.
  • Experience with high volume assembly and test processes including machine vision, robotics and actuators, conveyors, tray handlers, bulk feeders, small part manipulation, sensors and I/O controls, heat staking, sealing, ultrasonic welding, fluid dispensing, pneumatics, and PCBA functional test.
  • Packaging operation experience preferred, including pouching, cartoning, labeling, printing, case packing and palletization
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical industry operations, specifically GAMP design philosophy for medical device equipment including FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ, PQ, gauge R&R and measurement analysis
  • History of authoring quality related equipment documentation such as URS, FDS, pFMEAs, qualification protocols and reports
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS project and Visio.
  • Collaborative project management software experience preferred, i.e., Confluence and JIRA.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with small, cross-functional teams
  • Hands-on individual who enjoys rolling up their sleeves to respond quickly to problems and issues
  • Likes to travel; up to 30% travel
