With private insurance, yes, in many cases Lucira tests should be fully reimbursed, and in all cases at least partially, depending on the insurance provider.
Starting January 15, 2022, private insurers must fully reimburse their members for up to 8 at-home tests/month/member, or provide members access to free tests from a preferred provider. If your insurer sets up a preferred provider program, they will still partially reimburse for tests not included in their program. When you order from Lucira, we will email you a receipt with the information insurers typically require for reimbursement. Follow your insurance provider's instructions to submit reimbursement claims.
Medicare Part B, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) cover the cost of at-home tests from participating eligible pharmacies or healthcare providers.
The Lucira Check It COVID-19 Test Kit is a diagnostic test to detect SARS-CoV-2 which causes COVID-19. The test detects if you have an active infection and does not confirm immunity or detect antibodies. It is a molecular test that amplifies the virus’s genetic material while the test is running just like PCR lab tests. Lucira’s amplification method provides a level of accuracy comparable to one of the highest sensitivity lab PCR tests.
Lucira detects all COVID-19 variants of interest and concern, including Omicron and all BA subvariants of concern. Lucira conducts routine surveillance of emerging SARS-CoV-2 strains and will continue to monitor the situation with emerging variants.
For the latest variant information, please visit: www.lucirahealth.com/technical-brief.
Each test kit is single-use and comes with everything needed to run 1 Covid-19 test.
Currently, the test kit has a 12-month shelf life. Read our Note on Shelf Life Extension for more information.
Store and use Lucira between 59-86°F/15-30°C.
The test is indicated for self-collection for all people aged 14 years or older and for children as young as two years old when samples are collected by an adult.
No. The test only detects if you have an active SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 infection and does not confirm immunity or detect antibodies.
Being vaccinated will not affect your Lucira test results. If you are vaccinated and want to be tested for COVID-19, the Lucira test can be used.
No, this test does not require a prescription from a medical professional. However, if you have questions about your health, you should contact your doctor. If you receive a positive result, you should contact your healthcare professional.
RT-LAMP is the type of molecular amplification that is used in the Lucira test. Just like PCR lab tests, the Lucira test amplifies the SARS-CoV-2 virus’s genetic material while the test is running. The amplification that occurs in PCR and the Lucira test allows molecular tests to detect a positive sample with greater sensitivity than antigen tests. As a result, Lucira’s accuracy is comparable to one of the highest sensitivity lab PCR tests, the Hologic Panther Fusion.1

Following each step of the instructions is important to avoid causing invalids. Test kits should only be used when you are ready to perform the test.
